Alfred Keter is the present Member of Parliament for Nandi Hills Constituency since the year 2013. He is a gallant legislator who is known to express his mind, the results not withstanding.

Background & Education

He was then brought up in Ollessos Village, Nandi county, with four boys and two girls.
The second-term MP tended Cheplelachbei Primary School before moving to Kapsabet High School where he sat for his O-levels. The legislator was infamous for organising many walkouts in the institution. While he was a Form one, he marshaled students to engage in a strike that gained him a one week suspension. In Form 3, he tiptoed out of the school to make delighted with his friends and was once also suspended. He was ultimately expelled in form four after an dispute with a cook over food. This forced him to write the KCSE beyond school.

University

However, he performed well and was admitted to Egerton University where he was dismissed in his second year for conducting a strike. He went to court to contest his expulsion, but the university removed him from the case and reinstated.
In his third year, he was selected vice chairman and then evolved chairman following the removal of the chairman. However, he was later expelled after another strike that shut the institution for a while.
Post Expulsion
After being expelled, he then teamed up with other university scholars to campaign for retired president Mwai Kibaki, who pledged to reinstate them. When Mwai Kibaki became president, discontinued students were reinstated and he went back and finished his degree.

Career

Upon finishing university, he went back to the village before eventually moving to Nairobi where he began doing business. At agiven point, he worked as a tout before evolving manager of Eastleigh number nine matatus.
Politics
In the year 2007, he vied for the Starehe Constituency parliamentary seat but failed. Not one to give up, he contested for the Nandi Constituency parliamentary seat in the year 2013 under the TNA party and won.
In 2017, he successfully guarded his seat.

Trivia

In the year2015, a video of him intimidating police officers manning Gilgil Weighbridge on Nairobi Nakuru highway spread online. He was reportedly in the company of appointed MP Sonia Birdi, whose truck had been confined because it lacked an immunity permit as stipulated by the law.
In 2016, he closed heads with the Jubilee administration blaming them of corruption. He even alerted that if Jubilee failed to check the across-the-board corruption, they would lose the 2017 general elections. He revealed he had quit the party.

“You can mention me on this. Anyone you see funding Jubilee is either stupid or corrupt. The other title of Jubilee is corruption and you cannot define corruption in Kenya without calling it Jubilee. I mean Jubilee and corruption are the same,” He sid to the the media.

Making Amends

He later made some amends with the party and protected his seat under the Jubilee party ticket.
Following the victory, together with three other legislators fought a directive to relinquish their positions in the National Assembly Committees and Jubilee Members of Parliament afterward voted him out.

In February 2018, he was captured alongside two people in business for allegedly falsifying treasury bills worth Sh633 million. They were apprehended with 11 counts, including forgery and collusion to defraud Central Bank of Kenya Sh282 million. He rejected these allegations terming them as a political witch-hunt. He declared to have been targeted due to his political podium.

Plans to unseat Keter

The tough-talking legislator faces an acid test in the coming elections. According to the Standard newspaper, residents have already identified a successor and moved a step further by raising ksh1.6 million to go towards his crusade kitty. 3O year old Wesley Kogo is the real man to watch. He told the daily of the approval by the villagers:
“I knew I would be a boss but not this soon. I just graduated from the university and enjoyed to focus on my profesion. The idea of politics was actualy not in my mind. Nevertheless, the elders and locals have promised to support me and have already presented some money to jumpstart my crusades,” “To my amazement, hundreds of locals turned up and charitably contributed towards my movements.”
