Jimi was born to Mary & James Maina Wanjigi’sWanjigi’s parents in Nyeri. He was born in 1962 on 17th November. His parents sired four kids, and he is their second-born child.

Jimi attended Woodley Nursery School before joining the high school at St. Mary’sMary’s School. This was where his entrepreneurial line began taking actual shape among his counterparts and in his life. After fulfillment, he joined York University in Canada and later on Daystar University for his Master’sMaster’s degree.

His profession has not always been rosy and has always been on a never-ending and upward-rising revolution. Some of the work he has been implicated in include being an agent, working in accounts, consultancy, and several companies. Presently, Wanjigi is the Chief Executive Officer of Kwacha Group of Companies. 

Beyond the firm world, he also owns real estate controlled by his wife, who pursued Financial Studies at the University. Moreover, he is the creator of the Miana Wanjigi Foundation, a forum he uses to give back to society in his philanthropic actions.

He declared his presidential aspirations come to the general elections in 2022 seeking Kenya’sKenya’s economic revolution, food concerns, water, emergency services, security, academics, and social security among more work areas.

Jimi Wanjigi Personal Life

The serial entrepreneur wedded Irene Nzisa in 1997 on 15th March. After tying the knot, the pair had their first-born child Maina Wanjigi, currently in college pursuing a program in Economics. Their second-born kid Wambui Wanjigi is finishing her high school education in 2021. 


He grew up in politics, as his dad was an MP and a Cabinet Minister in Kenya’s first two cabinets.

He debuted into the political theater in mid-1992, where at a young age, he was among the campaigners for Kenneth Matiba in Kenya’s foremost multi Party elections.

Wanjigi kept a quiet profile, choosing to be a financier from the sidelines but remained a close companion to former Vice President and Cabinet Minister George Saitoti until his demise in 2012.

In 2013, he defended President Kenyatta and DP Ruto’s run to State House. He is considered to have brokered the deal between United Republican Party (URP) & The National Alliance (TNA), lading to a harmonious ticket.

He is also considered to have brokered a peace between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga in the aftermath of the mid-2013 general elections, and in 2017 moved allegiance to support the National Super Alliance (NASA).


On numerous occasions, the presidential contender on an ODM ticket has found himself in trouble with management, with the latest being on January 18, 2022. Police officers were drawn from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) were sent to his premises to make the arrest on allegations that he was in occupancy of another firearm.

The tycoon encountered himself in an almost identical predicament in 2017 when police stormed his Muthaiga home & carted away guns. Wanjigi went on to win a court suit, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss George Kinoti was summoned to return firearms seized from the billionaire home.

He failed to do so. Accordingly, justice Mrima gave Kinoti a four-month sentence at the Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Presidential Bid

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, Wanjigi declared he would contest for the 2022 general election. However, a section of Kenyans has connected his current woes to dislodge ODM leader Raila Odinga as the party’s flagbearer.

“It’s very evident that The police are bullying Jimi Wanjigi to allow Hon Raila to have an unrestricted run in the ODM Presidential nominations,” Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi stated.


He owns a magnificent home on five acres in the posh Muthaiga estate. His mansion was at the base of national headlines during a police raid in 2017.

On Saturday, Feb 8, 2020, entrepreneur Oscar Kinoti shared a manuscript of the developed and built house.

The house structure cost approximately $10 million (Ksh1 billion) and was planned by Perla Lichi (a luxury interior designer for both residential & commercials) based in the US.

The billionaire also owns houses in Malindi, Mombasa, Zurich, Switzerland and Dubai, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).


Wanjigi owns a fleet of lavish cars. During the raid on his houses, Kenyans got a sneak peek at his parking lot and the high-end cars in the lot.

Among the cars he possesses is a Mercedes Benz S500 2016. The car costs an extra of Ksh15 million, with a second hand going for Ksh10 million.

He also possesses a Rolls-Royce Provenance Phantom Coupe that went viral when it was imagined at the Galleria Mall in Nairobi. This 6.6 liters, V12, 550 break horsepower machine is calculated at a cost above Ksh45 million.

Other cars possessed by the billionaire include a Toyota Landcruiser V8 2015, Porsche Cayenne 2018, Land Rover TDV6, a BMW 7-Series & a Mercedes Benz E350 2018 model.


He also possesses a Eurocopter EC130 5YJWJ. The chopper is estimated to have placed him back at least Ksh168 million.
