Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is the present Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of health. The CAS appearances on TV to give covid-19 updates was like a puff of fresh air to many Kenyans. A lot of Kenyans were so enamored by her beauty and brilliance that they took to social media to voice their feelings.
The beautiful Dr. Mwangangi was born in early 1986 in Machakos. She shifted 35 years old this year (2021).
She attended at Pangani Girls High School before moving to the University of Nairobi. She graduated in late 2009 with a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery at the age of 23. In 2015, she then graduated with a Master of Health Economics & Policy from the University of Adelide, Australia. In an discussion with the Daily Nation, the youthful CAS said she sought medicine out of rebellion.
“My mother is a lawyer & I thought I am not going to be a lawyer too. So what is the negative of a lawyer? I said doctor,” she told DN.
She is the first-born in a family of three siblings. Her mother is the Machakos Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi, while her father is a prominent businessman who owns Hotel Connections in Mlolongo, Machakos county.
Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is not yet married. But, handling a rally in Migori county in the company of ODM chief Raila Odinga, the CAS told the locals that she had been assured of getting a spouse from the region.
“Baba (Raila Odinga) has ensured me that I can get a husband from this region. So please help me get a husband,” she said amid joyfulness from the locals.
In a different interview, Dr. Mwangangi stated that she was in a stable connection terming her boyfriend “very supportive”.
After completing MBA, she was nominated Head of Health Financing and Health Economics at the Ministry of Health after performing for 18 months without pay at the Health Ministry. Later, she was elevated to Chief Administrative Secretary for the Health Ministry.
Mercy also works as a mutual secretary in the task force on Universal Health coverage, one of Jubilee’s big four schedule pillars.
The CAS is also a component of the African Women in Leadership Program (AWLP). This aprogram enables women to conduct talks on issues concerning women and share useful insights to help in the advancement of African Women.
Role in the fight against Covid-19
The intelligent lady is at the fore in fighting the pandemic besides Health CS, Mutahi Kagwe. She was thrust into the spotlight on Wednesday, 25 th March when she emerged on TV giving updates on the covid-19 issues in Kenya. 7 new cases were raising the number to 179, 5 were found via surveillance and two had been quarantined. Five of the cases were in Nairobi, one in Mombasa & one in Uasin Gishu.
The press conference concluded with her stating that 5,278 samples had been sampled.
During the briefing, she endeared considerable by her intelligence that showcased as she fluently & eloquently answered questions from reporters. It was as if she was actualy born to it. Since then, she has emerged severally on TV. In one representative, demonstrating the appropriate way to put on a mask. This was helpful to many Kenyans who were inappropriately wearing masks. Dr. Mwangangi would make an excellent CS if given a chance, judging from her earlier public appearances.

More details about Mercy Mwangangi’s personal life are yet to be shared to the public. In an interview with KTN, Mercy clearly said that she is married to her job despite being in her early 30’s. The statement left many Kenyans disappointed of ‘her partner’. She hardly mentioned her partner whom she said is also so supportive to her.
The actual salary Mercy earns is not public familiarity but her main source of revenue is from her job at the Ministry.
