Mike Njenga is a Kenyan reporter who has worked for the biggest media house in the country. His journey to becoming a well-known face on Kenya’s screens was not an easy one. At one moment, he was so broke to the point of embarrassment. In an interview, he once recalled how a priest made hurting remarks on him because of his dire situation. So hurtful were the remarks that he has not failed that humiliation to date.
“Some years back, I was performing at a certain church. I used to do sound for that distinct church and sometimes would sleep at city hall on days we held meetings there. I was extremely broke. One Sunday, I went & borrowed open shoes from my cousin. I did not have money to buy shoe shine. So, I used a sponge soaked in water to wipe the dust from the shoes,” he narrated.

The news commentator then went on to narrate how the pastor called him and other ministers and switched out at them for not dressing properly while on the pulpit. He went on to say that some of them were wearing open shoes as if they were on the shore. What hurt more was that he had borrowed the funds to go to church that day and it was not his wish to dress badly, he just didn’t have the money.

Anyway, the reporter has come a long way since then and many know him for his news offering skills. His flow with words, demure & overall style has made him a beauty of many Kenyans.

After graduating with a Diploma in Journalism, he began his career at Eagles Creations where he was a production supervisor in both audio and video.

In June 2003, he merged TBN Family media as a radio presenter and got upgraded to the post of Team Manager Radio, a position he held until his departure.

While at Family, he hosted various shows including a youth show called Rock Solid and a breakfast presentation that opened his eyes to the political world. He also hosted verious weekend shows: Top 20 countdown on Sunday morning and a reggae show (Real Vibes) & a Sunday afternoon show called Relax.

Later, he entered Royal Media services and worked for Citizen TV. At Citizen TV, he started by hosting his own live bulletin, Live at 4. He rose through the ranks & started hosting the 9:00pm news alongside legendary reporter Catherine Kasavuli before host Business Center alongside Terryanne Chebet.

He left Citizen TV to enter Inooro TV, where he works to date.

Michael is the second-born in a family of 4 children. He lost his dad in 2018 as evidenced by his headquarters on social media at the time.

The former Citizen TV reporter married Phoebe Wanjiku five years ago. The two said “I do” in a bright ceremony carried at PCEA Evergreen Church in Runda, Nairobi on 11th of January 2016. The two met at a dinner that had been organized by a friend & after one year of dating Michael popped the question.
