Most Educated Police Officers In Kenya

The National Police Service (NPS) has been considered a career for least educated Kenyans for the longest time. In fact, NPS drafts young people who have achieved a mean grade of D+ (D Plus) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE examinations . However, in current years, we’ve seen a few police officers committed to changing this narrative as they scale the education ladder. This report, we will look at some of Kenya’s most educated police officers.

Dr. Musa Ambuchi, PhD

Dr. Musa Ambuchi is a police constable – the most subordinate rank within the police department but has a PhD in Psychology. The soft-spoken police officer is among former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s & has been working with him since mid-2008. The 41-year-old did his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Counselling & Masters in Counselling Psychology at Rengent University which has a associate in Kenya. In 2012, Ambuchi sat for his Doctor of Philosophy examination at the same university & passed. He also has a graduate diploma in Project Management from Kampala University. In a discussion with KTN News, Dr. Ambuchi stated that he will not stop until he becomes a professor.

Dr. Resilla A. Onyango, PhD

Dr. Resila Onyango is the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) & presently the Deputy Director of designing at the post of the Inspector General of Police. She recently struck the headlines after graduating with a doctorate, convincingly evolving the first female officer in the records of the National Police Service to get such a level.
She graduated with a degree in Education from Moi University before entering the police in 2003. She was brought to Kenya Police Training College Kiganjo where she appeared as the best overall female recruit, making her the Cane of Honor award from the President. The Lwak Girls High School fomer student did her Masters in Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania beneath the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program. She later gained her PHD and MPhil in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice that is The City University of New York under the CUNY finished Center Doctorate Fellowship.

Constable Amos Gakuo

Constable Amos Gakuo, a retired Form Four Leaver, is the latest authority to join the list of highly educated police. The news of Constable Amos obtaining a Masters was made public by activist Boniface Mwangi who took to twitter to hail him. Kenyans took the information positively and everyone was pleased and proud of him for the big accomplishment. Gakuo has performed in the police unit for 13 years now and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology & a Masters in Counselling psychology from the great University of Nairobi.

Simon Mwangi Wanderi

Simon Mwangi Wanderi was on 17th of December awarded Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations and Diplomacy from Kenyatta University. Wanderi operates as the director of personnel in the Directorate of Criminal Investigation in the National Police Service. His new academic accomplishment will see him upgrade after the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai announces that the upgrade list will be released soon.

Chief Inspector Mburu Maina

Chief Inspector Mburu Maina performs at the Personnel Directorate at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya. On Thursday 17th December, he finished with a PhD in Human Resource Management from Kenyatta University. Mburu also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Moi University & a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from (KNEC) the Kenya National Examination Council. He is as well a Certified Human Resource Practitioner by the Institute of Human Resource Management.

Boniface Otieno

Boniface Otieno graduated during the 66th graduation ritual of the University of Nairobi on Thursday, December 17th. Otieno successfully finished with a Masters’s Degree in Peace Studies & Armed Conflicts. He has performed in the National Police Service for 25 years and has undergone variously specialized locally and internationally exercise. The training contains Traffic Management & Road Safety at Zhejiang Police College in China & Fleet Management, Road Safety & Defensive Driving at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT).
He has also partaken in several committees & task forces dealing with road transport safety and management and lecturing in several government mechanisms such as DCI Academy, NTSA Academy & Kenya National Highways Authority. In addition, Otieno is presently working with Nairobi Metropolitan Services as an enforcement authority dealing with training & traffic operations.
