Nimrod Mwagamoyo Taabu (born on 14 of September 1979) is a Kenyan Swahili news anchor & reporter. The journalist has been in the media initiative for almost two decades. He performed at KTN before moving to NTV and finally decided at Citizen TV. In addition, he reads the 7 PM news magazine. Growing up, journalism was not his foremost career choice. It didn’tdidn’t even cross his mind until a family suggested he gives it a try.

His dream was to enter the tourism sector, and he devoted himself to joining Utalii College. However, this wasn’twasn’t an easy feat to join the college back in the day. The college declined his application three times. Then, he desired to be a footballer, but that still did not pan out.
“A comparative one day came and told me to involve for admission at a Mass Communication School, which I did, & the rest you can see now.”


He is a scornful graduate of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

The former KIMC graduate is a scornful husband and father to two sons. As a teenager, dating was not his focus. However, on his first date with his lovely wife, he invited her to his house & cooked spaghetti which was the most leisurely meal to prepare. She was impressed and enjoyed the meal.

In 2000, Nimrod started his career at the Standard Media Group-owned KTN as a subordinate reporter before being promoted to a news anchor. His role was to develop a weekly Swahili round-up program for the Mombasa audience that finally resulted in an instant the formation of a Swahili news bulletin.

His following cessation was NTV, where he was made a senior anchor & reporter in the editorial division and co-hosted a news program alongside Jane Ngoiri. The two made a suitable match that Nimrod’sNimrod’s departure was an emotional one. Jane Ngoiri wrote an inspirational message expressing her sadness following the deviation of her colleague:

“What a passionate day it has been. I can feel the void in my heart. I still have slashes in my eyes…..err balancing tears is no joke. I never felt a day would come to say goodbye. Nimrod Taabu has been better than a colleague, a best friend. When I entered NTV in 2012, I was starstruck by this guy whom I cared for and always wanted to do news with…..And when I encountered him…..we just bonded. Our chemistry on TV drew eyeballs, we connected with spectators, and it has always been fun working with NT. Nimrod Taabu may the Almighty endow you in this new chapter of your life,” a piece of her post read.

The professional anchor left NTV to join Royal Media Services in mid-2018.

Challenges in the Media

In discussion with Nairobi News, the news anchor generally stated Kenyan media is robust and one of the best in East & Central Africa. They enjoy a lot of space and can expose and tell many stories without fear of arrest.
However, telling a reporter in some parts of the country is not easy. Some have never seen a camera & don’t know either English or Swahili. At one time, a society asked them if they had been sent to deliver meals by the government.

Occasionally it is also a risky affair. At one time, they moved to visit Baragoi after the slaughter of security forces. It was a difficult assignment since police officers did not escort them for fear of antagonizing the locals.


The citizen TV reporter was honored at the CNN MultiChoice Journalists Award. He succeeded the best TV news bulletin award for a story he did on the problem encountered by Pokot locals in search of water. The series was titled “Portraits of Pain.”
