Kenya media characters are considered A-list celebrities, especially those who work in the top media houses. Zubeida Koome is a Kenya Television Network (KTN) news anchorperson whose beauty, charm, and enchanting voice have kept thousands of watchers glued to KTN screens for over a decade.

The bubbly presenter entered the Standard Media Group-owned station in 2007 as an intern. Little did she understand that she would remain there years later. Some have come and moved due to redundancy, others searching for greener ranges, but Zubeida has remained at the Standard Media Group-owned TV station for over 15 years. She reads the news in Swahili, has acquired immense experience over the years, and is a role model to numerous who wish to become journalists. “Before leaving Meru, I was frightened by stories I had heard about crime, rape, and all things peer pressure. I was frightened of this town! So I held onto my chum’s hand all the way. I devoured my first days in Nairobi in a hostel in Ngara. I was the ordinary village girl who remained in the hostel for fear of being raped,” she informed the media.

Journalism has ever been in her blood, even while still in primary school. She entered the journalism club while still in primary school. This assisted in mentoring as well as building her enthusiasm. In high school, she was the chairperson of the journalism club, and she collected all kinds of stories from magazines and showed them during assembly.

In January 2007, she entered the Standard Media Group as an intern for KTN. When her three-month term as an intern ended, the media house awarded her a one-year accord. In 2009, she confirmed her position with the media house.

Through dedication & hard work, she rose through the ranks in KTN and was elevated from one level to the next. In 2012, she evolved KTN Leo producer and anchor for Swahili news.

A photo of the reporter in a compromising position with South Sudan President Salva Kiir generated quite a stir on social media platforms. Social media users wondered why the news anchorperson would squeeze herself in a chair with the President. Interestingly it was Koome who had disseminated the photo on her Facebook page. It is not apparent if the duo had/have a specialty, or it was just excitement on the part of the newshound.
